2. Information We Collect

Depending on how you use Cavern, we may collect the following types of information:

Account Information

When you sign in to Cavern, we collect:

• your phone number
• the verification information needed to authenticate you by SMS one-time passcode

Profile Information

When you complete onboarding, we collect:

• your first name
• your device time zone

User Content

We collect the information you choose to enter into the app, including:

• facts, notes, prompts, or text you want to remember
• flashcard content and AI-generated card variants derived from your input

Study and Usage Data

To operate the spaced repetition system, we store data related to your study activity, such as:

• review results, including whether a card was remembered or forgotten
• review scheduling data, such as interval timing and next review date
• card state and progress information
• card interaction counts, such as review/success/skip counts

Widget Cache Data

To support the Cavern home screen widget, the app stores a local cache of review data on your device that can be accessed by the widget. This may include card content and review queue information needed to display due cards and process widget interactions.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• create and maintain your account
• authenticate you and keep you signed in
• personalize the app experience
• generate flashcards and review variants from your input
• schedule and track spaced repetition reviews
• sync your card data and progress between the app and our backend
• support local widget functionality on your device
• maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the app

4. AI Processing

Cavern may use third-party AI services to help transform your text input into card variants, such as flashcards or fill-in-the-blank prompts.

When you use these features, the text you submit may be sent to a third-party AI provider solely for the purpose of generating content for your account. We do not sell this content. However, third-party providers may handle submitted data according to their own terms, privacy policies, and service configurations.

5. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share information only as needed with service providers that help us operate Cavern, such as:

• authentication, database, and storage providers
• cloud infrastructure providers
• AI service providers used to generate card content

These providers process information on our behalf or as part of delivering the service you request.

We may also disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Cavern, our users, or others.

6. Data Storage and Widget Behavior

Cavern uses a cloud backend to store account information, profile information, cards, and study progress.

In addition, Cavern uses local on-device storage to support its home screen widget. The main app shares a local snapshot of review data with the widget so that due cards can appear on your home screen without requiring the widget to independently fetch your account data from the backend each time.

7. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide Cavern and maintain your account, unless a longer retention period is required by law.

If you stop using Cavern, we may retain certain information for a limited period for legitimate business purposes such as security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, and backup or recovery processes.

Please note that some limited information may be retained where required for legal, security, fraud prevention, or operational reasons.
